This was a fantasy piece, and an unusual departure for me. I was working on the background as an exercise in using only three colors: aquamarine blue, burnt sienna, and titanium white. My son- who loves fantasy, dragons, and everything associated with them, came in and said , "Dad, that's a cool painting. It would look awesome with a dragon." And so this painting was born. I added the castles as a homage to him.
