No airplane in this painting. It is based on an old sailor's tale about an apparition that can be seen on stormy nights near treacherous shores. Here, a haunting, after storm sky has opened up for the moon to reveal an apparition- a ghost- on the bow of a wrecked sailing vessel. To me, the sea has always been mysterious.
